Every year on October 10th, World Mental Health Day is celebrated and serves as a reminder of the importance of mental well-being across the globe. This year, the theme set up by the World Federation of Mental Health (WFMH) states “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace”

What is “Mental Health”? Why should we prioritise it in the workplace?

Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which an individuals can cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively and fruitfully, and are able to contribute to their community. It encompasses emotional, psychological, and social aspects of functioning.

A workplace environment that is supportive of their employees mental well-being has often less turnover rate. It also boosts productivity as individuals feel more focused and creative when they are mentally supported, and leads to lesser sick leaves due to fewer stress related illnesses.

What leads to mental health challenges in the workplace?
