
New Delhi, 25 October — The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has taken decisive action to address the grievances of DNB and Diploma resident doctors at Chitradurga District Hospital in Karnataka, This follows persistent issues faced by these junior doctors, prompting the United Doctors’ Front Association (UDFA) to intervene.
On 24 September 2024, a member of UDFA filed a request under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, seeking details on complaints lodged by the resident doctors and the actions taken by the hospital authorities.
The information sought includes a comprehensive overview of sanctioned posts at Chitradurga District Hospital, encompassing medical, non-medical, support, and administrative staff, along with current vacancies. Details are requested on the appointment procedures for these positions, including related files. A list of DNB and Diploma resident doctors currently associated with the hospital is sought, alongside any complaints filed by these doctors and subsequent actions taken.
Additionally, information is requested regarding adherence to the NBE Manual for DNB Trainees 2022, specifically clause 2.9, concerning required rotations within the specialty. Lastly, there is a request for details on duties assigned to DNB and Diploma residents over the past three months, with clarification on any tasks deviating from the standard curriculum.
In a timely response, the NBEMS directed the management of Chitradurga District Hospital to resolve the grievances of the affected doctors. According to the NBEMS, the hospital has been instructed to take appropriate actions and keep the trainees informed throughout the process.
Furthermore, the NBEMS issued a reminder letter to the hospital on 8 October 2024 for compliance.
UDFA has expressed its gratitude to the NBEMS and hopes that NBEMS will hold the hospital accountable for any negligence in addressing the concerns raised by the doctors.
