Srinagar | 6th Nov: Kashmiri MBBS graduates who studied abroad are calling on the Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department to establish an examination center in Srinagar to accommodate the upcoming Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) scheduled for 12th January 2025.
Currently, apart from Jammu, these graduates are required to travel to distant cities, primarily Delhi, to sit for the FMGE. The logistical and financial challenges associated with this arrangement have prompted them to seek a local alternative in Srinagar itself. Many of these students face significant expenses related to travel, accommodation, and the overall challenges of navigating unfamiliar location ie far from home.
The issue is further increased during winter months, as extreme weather often disrupts transportation in Kashmir. Flights are frequently canceled, causing additional stress and uncertainty for students trying to reach their examination centers on time. Although many candidates list Jammu as a preferred center, they are frequently being assigned to locations far from their home state due to the policy of NBE of randomly allocating 1 city out of 4 mentioned by the candidates in their application form.
Students have expressed that establishing an examination center in Srinagar would not only offer convenience but could also improve their performance, as they would face fewer logistical chanllenges. Despite the growing number of foreign medical graduates from Kashmir, however, the current lack of a local center has left many students at a disadvantage.
The graduates hope their appeal will prompt swift action, allowing them to pursue medical careers in Kashmir without unnecessary obstacles and delays.
