Jabalpur (6th Jan): The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a directive to provisionally reopen the NEETPG 2024 MP State counselling portal for candidates affected by the revised eligibility criteria.
The petitioners, in-service doctors with MBBS degrees serving in rural Madhya Pradesh for 3–11 years, claimed they were excluded from participating in the second round of counselling due to delayed access to the amended criteria. The eligibility percentile was reduced to 15 for General/EWS and 10 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates as per a notification dated January 4, 2025. However, the portal was not reopened to allow new registrations following this change, depriving eligible candidates of participation.
The counsel for the petitioners argued that the procedural amendment disadvantaged the candidates, violating established rules. The state defended that the petitioners did not register initially, rendering the petition unmeritorious.
Acknowledging the significance of the rule change mid-process, the court provisionally directed the portal to be reopened for the petitioners. Further, the announcement of results scheduled for January 7, 2025, has been stayed until further orders.
This interim relief ensures equitable participation pending the final resolution of the case.
Key Points ie Court’s Decision:
- It ruled that rules cannot be changed mid-process, and petitioners cannot be deprived of participation.
- As an interim relief, the court directed respondents to reopen the portal for the petitioners’ provisional registration and participation in the counselling.
- The results scheduled for 07.01.2025 were ordered to be kept in abeyance (put on hold) until further notice.
