The Supreme Court of India is hearing the case Ishika Jain vs NBE (Diary No. 41088/2024), which raises concerns about the National Board of Examinations’ (NBE) handling of NEETPG 2024. The petition demands the release of question papers, answer keys, and greater transparency in the normalization process. Initially scheduled for final disposal on 26th November 2024 before a bench comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan, the case was rescheduled to 3rd December 2024 and subsequently postponed multiple times—to 7th January 2025, then 8th January, then 15th Jan 2025, and now 28th Jan 2025 —due to time constraints and other reasons.

During the 7th January 2025 hearing, Senior Advocate Sanjay Hegde, representing the petitioners, made an urgent mention before Justices B.R. Gavai and A.G. Masih regarding the third round of NEETPG counselling, urging the matter to be heard promptly.
The respondent’s counsel incorrectly informed the Court that the 3rd round of counselling had ended on 4th Jan 2025. Justice Gavai, preoccupied with another case, deferred the matter, advising the petitioners to re-mention it on 8th January 2025. He remarked, “If counselling is over, we will dispose of the matter. It’s not like we will order fresh counselling.”
Repeated adjournments, often due to time constraints or the unavailability of counsel, have delayed the resolution of key concerns surrounding the fairness of NEETPG 2024 results. Meanwhile, All India R-3 counselling for NEET-PG 2024 is ongoing, with choice filling starting on 14th Jan 2025 and results scheduled for 18th Jan 2025, despite the unresolved legal proceedings.
