Jabalpur (MP): The Madhya Pradesh NRI (Non Resident Indian) case wrt NEETPG 2024 pertains to the allocation of NRI quota seats in postgraduate medical courses in state Madhya Pradesh.
The aspirants have challenged the seat distribution in the High Court, alleging that the 15% NRI quota has been disproportionately applied. Instead of being evenly distributed across all 22 subjects, it has been limited to only 8 subjects, leading to a shortage of seats for students from the open pool.
Example
In Dermatology, there are 10 total seats in private medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh. By the 15% rule, 1.5 seats (~2 seats) should be allocated to the NRI quota. However, 5 seats (50%) have been allocated, exceeding the prescribed limit.
The petitioners argue that the NRI quota should be distributed as 15% of the total available seats across all 22 subjects to ensure fairness.

- Respondent 2 (SAIMS): While SAIMS has filed their reply, they have not yet received a copy of the state’s submission and have requested more time for review.
The petitioner urged the court to proceed with the hearing immediately. However, the judge ruled that the matter lacks urgency since the revised state merit list will take time to prepare.

Final Judgement
3rd Dec (Jabalpur): The next hearing in the case concerning NEET Percentile, normalisation, and state ranking of in-service candidates is scheduled for 5th December 2024 (Thursday), with the interim stay order remaining in effect from Madhya Pradesh HC at Jabalpur.
NBEMS has explained the processes for normalisation, preparation of seniority lists based on NEET Percentile, and rankings (All India and State) and has been directed by the court to produce calculation sheets regarding in-service candidates.
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva has emphasised the need to resolve the case promptly due to its impact on counselling schedules. Although advocate Sanghi requested a hearing on 9th Dec Monday, but the matter will proceed on the scheduled date ie 5th Dec Thursday.
