The Indian Medical Association – Junior Doctors’ Network (IMA-JDN) has submitted an official request to Shri J.P. Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, seeking a reduction in cut-off marks for the NEETPG 2024 examination. The appeal comes in response to a significant number of postgraduate medical seats remaining vacant despite the completion of the All India 2nd Round of counseling for the academic year 2024.

Introduction

In the letter, the IMA-JDN expressed grave concerns over the underutilization of medical seats, which hampers the development of a robust healthcare workforce in India. The association emphasized that reducing the cut-off marks would allow competent candidates another opportunity to fill these seats, thereby strengthening India’s healthcare delivery system and addressing the shortage of specialists.

Key Points of the Request:

1. Optimal Utilization of Medical Seats: Ensuring all available seats are filled to meet the growing healthcare needs.

2. Second Opportunity for Aspirants: Allowing candidates another chance to pursue their career goals.

3. Addressing Demand-Supply Gaps: Bridging the disparity between the need for specialists and the availability of qualified doctors.

The IMA-JDN urged immediate intervention, highlighting the critical role of postgraduate medical education in meeting India’s healthcare challenges. The association remains hopeful that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will take favorable action to resolve this pressing issue.

The medical fraternity awaits the government’s response to this crucial appeal, which could significantly impact the future of medical education and healthcare delivery in the country.
