The Supreme Court heard the case National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences vs Dr. Abhishek Shukla and Others, The State of Madhya Pradesh, and Director Medical Education (Diary No. 58414/2024) by Special Leave Petition today. During the proceedings, the NBE counsel emphasised that the session is set to begin on the 20th Dec, and conducting it with normalised marks would lead to a disaster.
It was noted that all other states have accepted the current position, and no objections or cases have been filed by candidates anywhere, except in Rajasthan, where the matter is listed before a Division Bench (SAW/ 53478/ 2024 – Dr Paras Suthar vs UOI) on 19th Dec 2024 to hear the appeal against the Single Judge’s ruling which was already in Favour of NBE.
The Supreme Court has stayed the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s order and issued a notice to both parties. The matter will be heard after 4 weeks, with the next hearing scheduled for 21st Jan 2025.
Earlier the NBE had filed the appeal in SC challenging the judgment of the Hon’ble Madhya Pradesh High Court, which directed the NBE to revise the state merit list by adding incentive marks to the normalised score instead of the raw score. The High Court also instructed that the process be completed at the earliest.
However, NBEMS had previously explained the normalisation process, preparation of seniority lists based on NEET percentiles, and the ranking methodology (both All India and State) for in-service candidates to the Hon’ble Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Meanwhile, NEET PG All India R-2 counselling is underway, with the results already published on 14th Dec 2024 and reporting last day as 20th Dec 2024 amidst the ongoing legal proceedings. The ruling of SC has given a relief to all candidates of Madhya Pradesh.
Now it is expected that the final result and reporting of State of Madhya Pradesh shall be finalised soon.

Another Supreme Court Case
The Supreme Court of India in Ishika Jain vs NBE (Diary No. 41088/2024), which raises concerns about the National Board of Examinations’ (NBE) handling of NEETPG 2024. The case demands the release of question papers, answer keys, and transparency in the normalisation process. The case was initially scheduled for final disposal on 26th November 2024 before a bench comprising Hon’ble Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan. However, it was rescheduled to 3rd November 2024, and subsequently postponed again to 07th Jan 2025 due to time constraints and other reasons, time to time.
In past the hearing has faced multiple adjournments either due to time constraints or the unavailability of the petitioners’ counsel. This further postponement continues to delay the resolution of critical issues surrounding the fairness of NEETPG 2024 results.
