Hyderabad: A significant delay in the NEETPG 2024 counselling process in Telangana has prompted medical aspirants to appeal directly to Chief Minister Shri Revanth Reddy.

Letter by IMA

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) – Telangana State, has formally submitted a letter urging the state government to expedite the release of the merit list, seat matrix, and prospectus, and to conduct State Counselling R-1 before 26th Dec 2024.

The letter highlights growing concerns among students, who are uncertain about their academic future as two rounds of All India Quota (AIQ) counselling have already concluded. Without the release of Telangana’s merit list and the start of State Round 1, many students are left in limbo, unable to make informed decisions regarding resignations from AIQ seats.

Key Issues Highlighted:

  • Despite the AIQ rounds proceeding as scheduled, Telangana’s counselling process has yet to commence, causing anxiety among aspirants.
  • Students face difficulties in deciding whether to resign from AIQ Round 2 seats, as they are unaware of their standing in the state merit list.
  • The delay may lead to students accepting less-preferred branches or pursuing education outside Telangana, incurring additional costs and compromising on their career goals.
  • The IMA has requested that the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and the National Medical Commission (NMC) delay AIQ Round 3 and extend the resignation period for AIQ Round 2.

The IMA cited examples from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, where delayed counselling was accommodated by the MCC through extended resignation periods for AIQ seats. Telangana students are now requesting similar provisions.

Appeal to the Government:

The letter also appeals to the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) to allow all NEET PG aspirants from Telangana to participate in State R-1 without restrictive conditions.

The IMA has forwarded copies of the letter to key officials, including Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha and Secretary Dr. Christina Z. Chongthu, urging prompt action to prevent further distress among students.

This urgent plea underscores the critical need for swift governmental intervention to ensure Telangana’s medical aspirants do not face undue disadvantages in their pursuit of postgraduate medical education.
