Jabalpur: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued an interim order regarding the filling of NRI quota seats during NEETPG 2024 counselling. As per this order, the process of filling these seats is temporarily halted. This decision came during the hearing of a petition challenging the seat matrix.
Court Observation
The court, during the hearing, observed that in 8 branches, 40-50% of the seats were allocated under the NRI quota, while in other branches, this limit was capped at 15%. The petitioners alleged discrimination, claiming that on November 22, the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) published details of vacant seats on the portal late in the evening without providing enough time for the petitioners to apply.
It was further claimed that counseling began immediately without addressing this issue. Additionally, the petition highlighted that private medical colleges allocated more than 15% of seats under the NRI quota but failed to apply reservation policies equally. Dr. Awnish Vijaya, a resident of Bhopal, had challenged the seat matrix in this regard.
Impact
Due to this order, NRI quota seats will remain vacant for now. Further processes related to the counseling and applications for these seats will be decided after the court’s ruling.
